The author

Charles Davenport

A name chosen for distance—near enough to tell the truth, far enough to see it whole.

Charles Davenport writes at the meeting place of observation and responsibility. His subjects appear different at first: detectives, dogs, loyalty, motive, and the private evidence carried by ordinary lives.

They share a single conviction. Nothing is merely background. The neglected detail, the altered habit, the silence at the wrong moment—each may be the beginning of the truth.

The fuller account of Davenport's life will be released by degrees.
